Bellinzonese
Castelgrande

Departing from Bellinzona station, a steep road takes us to the Montebello Castle, also known as The Middle Castle. Later, we reach the third castle, Sasso Corbaro, which is the highest point of the itinerary; it dominates the town from a hill with a wonderful view.

After a curvy descent we reach Camorino, where we visit the hunger forts, buildings that tell a story about a difficult and turbulent period in Ticino. These cylindrical towers were created in the middle of the 19th century and had a double role: they where part of a defensive system and the building process allowed to employ about 500 people for a couple of years.

Not far from the Croveggia cable car there is a biotope rich in water plants, frogs and even turtles. In the shade of the trees the tables and benches are an ideal place for a picnic.

The tour leads to the Magadino plain. As we pass by the Colombera farm, we stop at the farm shop and buy some delicacies. We return to Bellinzona via its historic centre.
